HAPPY SCHOOLS
-
Launched in Vietnam in 2016 by the Eurasia Learning Institute for Happiness and Wellbeing (ELI), the Happy School program is a transformative educational approach that integrates mindfulness, social-emotional learning (SEL), and holistic well-being into school environments.
By fostering self-care, care for others, and care for the planet, it promotes a new educational paradigm rooted in compassion, sustainability, and lifelong learning.
Grounded in both intercultural wisdom and scientific research, the program responds to the ecological, economic, and social challenges faced by educators and students today.
It is active in countries such as Vietnam, Switzerland, Germany, and Ukraine, as well as through its online platform (HSIO). The program brings together a dynamic community of students, teachers, school leaders, healthcare professionals, local authorities, and academic experts in pedagogy, psychology, neuroscience, and health.
SYMPOSIUM
INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM IN BHUTAN : REIMAGINING EDUCATION FROM A GROSS NATIONAL HAPPINESS (GNH) PERSPECTIVE
June 2024 | Paro, Bhutan
The first international symposium on "Happy Schools" in Vietnam : "Can happiness skills be learned?”.
April 2023 | Hué, Vietnam
"Education has created an amazing world around us: our culture, our language, our economy, and our society... But that same education has also left the world with increasing disconnects: A gap between the imperative of infinite growth and the limited resources of our planet; Between the financial economy and the real economy; Between the rich and the poor; Between the concept of our gross domestic product and people's well-being; or Between what is technologically possible and social needs. If we want to see a different world, we need to build a different education system."
Andreas Schleicher, Director for Education and Skills, and Special Advisor on Education Policy to the Secretary-General at the OECD.
“What we want to see is nothing less than transformative — graduates who are genuine human beings, realizing their full and true potential, caring for others—including other species—, ecologically literate, contemplative as well as analytical in their understanding of the world, free of greed and without excessive desires; knowing, understanding, and appreciating completely that they are not separate from the natural world and from others; — in sum manifesting their humanity fully... In the end, a GNH-educated graduate will have no doubt that his or her happiness derives only from contributing to the happiness of others.”
Jigme Y. Thinley, 2009 Prime Minister of Bhutan
