HSIO
Through the Eyes of a 20-Year-Old Social Sciences Student
Océane Poivre, intern at Eurasia Learning institute
“I discovered Happy Schools International Online (HSIO) through a four-month internship with the Eurasia Foundation and Association, as part of my political science studies. I would first like to express my sincere gratitude for the energy, dedication, and vision of the HSIO team. How has HSIO impacted me—and what makes this course so valuable?
First, the format of the course offered a unique and profound way to explore the Happy Schools approach. I engaged with carefully crafted thematic content—each week unfolding like a window in an Advent calendar, offering a small treasure of knowledge and reflection. This journey allowed me to feel connected to a truly global community. Participants from Germany, India, Vietnam, Hawai’i, United States, Cambodia, Luxembourg, and beyond shared heartfelt reflections during the "Sharing from the Heart" segments and collective online sessions. Despite the distance, a real sense of connection emerged. Although primarily designed for teachers and educators, the course also holds deep relevance for parents, school staff, and anyone who feels a calling toward education. Its online format allows for flexible engagement, making it possible to apply the insights directly to one’s own daily context—while remaining linked to the HSIO community.
This course has expanded my perspective on education in ways that will shape me for life. I have embraced the three pillars of Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) taught in HSIO:
reconnexion to self,
reconnexion to others and society,
and reconnection to nature and the planet.
I was also particularly inspired by the “3H” paradigm: Head, Hand, Heart. These principles are brought to life through rich content from lecturers and facilitators—videos, academic readings, and facilitator-led sessions—covering practices like mindfulness, deep listening, restorative approach and other topics. Learning these Happy Schools skills has been transformative for me. It reminded me that I’m not alone dreaming of—and working toward—a better world through a holistic education.
Last but not least, HSIO is grounded in the powerful belief that the well-being of teachers directly impacts the well-being of students—that “happy teachers will change the world”. By integrating SEL into school systems, regardless of learners’ age, it nurtures an educational paradigm based on compassion, sustainability, and lifelong learning. For instance, during adolescence, a negative school climate or poor student-teacher relationships can worsen stress and mental health issues. Conversely, by supporting the professional and emotional well-being of teachers, and fostering more harmonious school environments, it creates healthier, more resilient spaces for all learners.
I sincerely hope that every teacher, educator, and anyone passionate abouteducation will find their way to Happy Schools. It’s not just a course—it’s a journey of transformation.
Thank you for reading those words.
Océane.
